If you are keen on MMOs then chances are you have taken a swipe at RuneScape somewhere, sometime. Jagex created the game way back in 2001 and it has since charted an amazing success story. Enchanting millions of fans worldwide, RuneScape has now been officially stamped as the world’s largest free MMORPG (massively multiplayer online role-playing game). And the recognition has come from none other than The Guinness Book of World Records. Jagex says that since its launch nearly 138 million people have played the game. The company also says that besides being the world’s largest free MMO, the game is also world’s second largest MMO, second only to WoW. The recognition, which came at the 2008 Leipzig Games Convention, prompted Geoff Iddison, CEO of Jagex, to say:

We are delighted to be recognized as the biggest free MMO in the world. This is great recognition for RuneScape and following the launch of RuneScape HD in July, RuneScape is going from strength to strength.
