Talking to GamesIndustry.biz, SCEE president ‘David Reeves’ has told that the 60GB PS3 will no longer be available in the US after stock sells out, i.e. by the end of this month.
Making announcement of new Euro PS3 bundle, Reeves leaked the information. When he was asked about a price-cut for European PS3 as SCEA has offered, he quipped that they are clearing the (60GB PS3) stock that they have presently in their stores and consequently would stop shipping the (low-priced) consoles.
When asked if it indicates the end of the 60GB model, the exec replied, ‘In America, yes.’ Simultaneously, he denied 80GB PS3 for the UK because 60GB and 80GB consoles make hardly any difference and said that they are going to double it.
A 120GB version of PS3 is more probable in the UK, isn’t it?
Since, it should not be taken more than a speculation, because, the informal announcement has been made by the SCEE official, who is not a decision makes for SCEA.
However, acting promptly, SCEA’s ‘Dave Karraker’ has cut in between saying that the 60GB PS3 will be available in North US for $499 until supply is exhausted, but they have sufficient stock to meet the immediate needs of consumers in the territory for the coming months.
