Linden Lab; the founder of Second Life (a 3D virtual-world) has announced plans to break the deep silence spattered over the Second Life. The creator has decided to give voice to the virtual residents over there so as to make them talk to each other in their surroundings.
No doubt, the addition of voice marks a natural process in the virtual world residents. Favoring the move, VP Joe Miller, platform and technology development at Linden Lab says that the voice is a transformative technology that will change the way residents communicate, and will lend more immediacy and dynamism to their interaction with others.
Before this, Second lifers used to communicate with each other either via text chat (personal or in a group setting) or using a third-party voice application like Skype.
Presently, Linden Lab will carry out a Beta test by the end of March, with the help of which thousands of virtual residents will be able to assess the potential of new venture.
The new intuitive feature will help real world residents largely like education institutions will be able to exploit the new feature for delivering lectures and corporate sector could deploy it in educating their customers while the online friends will be able to talk verbally to their friends that was infeasible, previously.
