I think this is a major step for a company like his, but then again, it could go right down in flames. Although all the hype and excitement about the Civilization Revolution is big, and the game is supposed to be awesome, doesn’t take away from the fact that they are trying to make a turn-based game into a console game. Consoles are normally known for their dynamic gameplay. With games like Grand Theft Auto, Call of Duty, Socom, and Sports games, turn-based games just aren’t really in the picture. If I remember correctly, Risk tried doing that on the console and it was a total disaster. I rented it at my local Video Game store and played it and was bored within minutes. The game was slow, and almost hard to get around.
Turn-Based games just aren’t really worth it for the console. They ought to be banned to the PC forever where people can actually sit down and have more freedom and easier movement with their 100+ keys and multiple mouse buttons.
Although I’m against turn-based games for consoles, I guess I’ll have to trust them on this one and hope for the best. Then again, it is Firaxis and they are one of my favorite gaming companies. Plus you also have to factor in that Sid Meier has won more awards than any other game developer ever. Oh well, we shall wait and see how this turns out.
