Game in a Bottle Studios has published a new RPG web browser based game called GemCraft. The game is based around a tale of an evil wizard who summons monsters to run around pillaging villages, destroying buildings and causing chaos and mishap. You (the player) are the good wizard with similar powers, and it is up to you to save people from peril. As you can tell from the title, the game uses gems as your means of defense against the monsters. Basically, there are several different levels, each getting harder as you progress. Each map contains the wizard’s house and a winding road toward a village of unsuspecting people. Along the road are towers where you can place your gems to destroy oncoming monsters. The gems are the weapons and vary in attack (poisoning, shooting, slowing down monsters, etc).
The higher the ‘grade’ of the gem, the better ability it has to ward off predators. As you progress to higher levels, you will realize the initial set of gems become less effective as the monsters get stronger and move faster. You can buy more powerful gems with ‘Mana’. A little strategy is required because buying gems too quickly means you will run out of mana fast, resulting in an unexpected attack.
Gems can be bought with mana or combined together to form more powerful and purer gems which have more effective attacking capabilities. You can also convert spare gems into gem bombs for quick and destructive attacks. You gain mana as every second passes by in the game, as well as when you kill an enemy monster. As you progress through the game, your experience time will double your scores, enabling you to get cooler weapons.
Once you get into the hang of things, you might end up having hours of fun. This surely would make a good addition to the list of games ‘gem players’ like to play. I tried it out myself and found it fun, mostly because I liked other games such as Bejeweled.
The game is totally free. You can play it at Armor Games by clicking here.
