Sony-Microsoft Blu-ray talks going on? Microsoft denies!

Ever since the demise of HD-DVD, fanboys of Xbox 360 have been praying for a Blu-Ray add-on for their consoles. An article in The Financial Times on Thursday mentioned that Sony Electronics US president Stan Glasgow said during media dinner that they are discussing Blu-ray with Microsoft for Xbox 360. It wasn’t long before Next-Gen interviewed Microsoft representative who said that Microsoft’s prime focus is to provide games for gaming console and not to provide movie playing capabilities. He said,

There are no plans to introduce Blu-ray.

An e-mail from Microsoft’s spokesperson reads,

In response to Stan Glasgow’s statement that Blu-ray is a possibility for Xbox 360, we have made no such announcement, games are what are driving consumers to purchase game consoles and we remain focused on providing the largest library of blockbuster games available.
