Sony plans non-Sony classic content on PSP

If you have been into games since your childhood then I bet you are still big on those retro titles; nothing like that sweet nostalgia of old days. And now even Sony agrees with that. Sony wants to bring the oldies back to its PlayStation Network for PSP as downloadable content. The company's plan is bigger than you’d have imagined; it wants to bring back the retro titles not only from PlayStation family but beyond as well. As per John Koller, US marketing head for PS hardware, Sony has been discussing a lot about reviving back catalogs so that the classics can be made available for the PlayStation Network in second half of this year itself. He says:

PSOne is included, but everything is on the table…We look for some of those big hits from all of the past games in their history and look for ways we can bring them over. It’s not always easy. There are obviously technical areas that need to be bridged. But when those are solved, consumers will see a wide variety of retro games and brand new games coming to PSN.

Sony is planning to improve its services for the PSP in 2009 by providing more downloadable content, and porting oldies is one half of it. In addition, Sony’s internal studios are specifically developing download-only titles for PSP and they also plan to bring more PS3 PSN titles for PSP users. Sony is doing all this because it believes that 50 percent of its users are interested in playing paid downloadable games.
