24 million PSPs have so far been shipped by Sony globally since PSP was launched in December 2004.
They have sold around 250,000 units of the new version of the PlayStation Portable in Japan in the four days since its launch.
Sources say, this roughly seems to match the total Japanese sales of the original PSP in the two months through August.
The new PSP was introduced by Sony on September 20 in Japan in a bid to compete better with Nintendo hot-selling DS Lite.
They launched the new PSP which is slimmer and cheaper than the earlier model.
Both Sony with it’s PSP and Nintendo with it’s DS released their handheld consoles late in 2004.
According to the information and statistics received from videogame magazine publisher Enterbrain, Sony seems to have sold 250,702 new PSPs in the four days through September 23, compared with 275,223 units of the original PSP it sold in July and August in Japan.
The new PSP sells for 19,800 yen, which is 5 percent less than the original model and compares with 16,800 yen for the DS Lite.
Let’s see who wins the game this time!
