The Mobile gaming industry just got a whole lot hotter with Apple and game developer giant Electronic Arts announcing games for the Iphone at the iPhone’s SDK conference on 6th march. The two games announced for the cult iPhone include are Apple’s own touchfighter and EA’s Spore. Both the games are designed to take full advantage of the iPhone’s accelerometer. Apple’s Touchfighter is a 3D space shooting game, in which the iPhone’s accelerometer is used to steer the device and to shoot, you just need to touch the screen. Very cool. And here is something cooler. The guys at Engadget found the game to be progressing at a very impressive 27 to 30 frames per second which puts the iPhone’s touchfighter game very close to console games. Now, moving on to the other game, The Spore, from EA sports. The Spore is a gaming platform that the iPhone shares with many other mobile phones. The Spore, like the Touchfighter also uses the accelerometer to change direction of the creature in the game not to mention many other customizing options whose details are a bit sketchy at the moment though. EA plans to release the Spore in September.
Quoting EA Sports’ CEO John Riccitiello,
The animation technology in the iPhone OS enables us to build awesome games. I think iPhone consumers are going to be blown away by the games we create for this platform.
Now, as more and more game developers make full use of the iPhone’s Software development kit(SDK), the gamers can only expect a plethora of hot games for the iPhone. And, who can forget the iPhone’s little brother, the iPod touch. The Touch which shares the iPhone’s OS can just become a hot gaming device creating an all new multimedia gaming device. The Future looks very very exciting.
