Mega hits like Super Mario Galaxy, Rock Band and Bioshock took a step back as Valve's futuristic game Portal walked away with the Game of the Year award at the Game Developer's Choice Awards. The ceremony was held at the Game Developer's Conference in San Francisco and has been known to recognize excellence in the technical aspects of the games. First released on the PC and later on Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 as part of Valve’s “Orange Box” package, Portal also bagged the awards for best game design and innovation. The awards also saw recognition for Crackdown which got best debut game, PS3 Flow got best downloadable game, and Crysis received the best technology award while the best handheld game award was given to Zelda: Phantom Hourglass. The second biggest winner of the night, Bioshock also walked away with honors for best audio, best visual arts, and best writing.
