Gaming began with primarily being played on computers. From primitive games like Pacman and Card games to classics like WarCraft series, Diablo series, Tom Clancy, Painkiller to modern day hits like World Of Warcraft, Hellgate London and Dirt, PC never had much trouble in winning a gamers heart. However, the same cannot be said in today’s times since the PC has some heavy competitors like Nintendo’s Wii, XBox 360. Gamecube and Playstation 3. These consoles are themselves too good to resist and along with these factors are the extraordinary games being made exclusively for consoles only. That said, the PC still offers many games to be played on it along with few games which can work on both PC’s as well as on Consoles eg. Final Fantasy XI.
Coming to the important part, there are some big differences between gaming on a PC and gaming on console systems. Some factors that a gamer should consider if about to make a choice of a preferred gaming platform are:
1) A console is a one time investment, you can buy it and immediately start to game on nit without the fear of whether you have a correct processor, graphic card or a compatible GB RAM.
2) You need not worry about buying costly graphic cards for playing latest games on a console, as i said, once bought it can work any game made for it.
3) You can act all lazy and sit on a couch and game, since unlike a computer, you aren’t restricted to a single place while gaming.
4) It bears a good resemblance to the TV video game joystick most people have played in their childhood, thus there is less confusion when a player wants to learn about the controls of the game.
5) Its far more cheaper if you compare it with the cost of buying a Gaming PC.

However, the points of worry are that even if one part of the console becomes non-functional, the entire console has to be replaced. Not to forget that every console gets their own working games developed, so you can’t grab on the games you like but which fall in other console category.
But we definitely cannot forget the variety of services and functions that a regular PC gives. Also, where every PC can have a standard Internet connection with little or no trouble, every console doesn’t have active Internet supporting features, for instance, a PlayStation has a modem inside it but Xbox doesn’t.
Bottom line, it depends on the taste and style of the gamer. Games made for PC and Consoles can in no way be compared, both are successful in giving hours of enjoyment. In the end, ‘a gamer’s destiny is decided by his gaming platform choices’.

Well Xbox came after Gamecube and PS, obviously, because it was Microsoft. Microsoft has their hands in both PC and Console gaming which puts them a little ahead of the others. The points you made on the console games, are correct but any hard gamer is going to have a decent PC.
Even with an expensive gfx card then you are going to get at least a year to two years out of that card. When you talk about processor, I have an older computer (going to update when I get done with some design jobs) I have a 3 ghz Intel 4 CPU Processor with an old 478 socket. This means I can’t run my 8800. I also have a 7800 gfx and I run Call of Duty 4 on medium settings and Crysis on a low setting and they both still have awesome graphics. Even though I have a stupid Intel processor, I still have an awesome ASUS mobo which I think is one of the best brands out there. Then I have 1gb of memory.
Long story short, after listing my specs, I am able to play all the top games but just not on the top graphics level. I have an old computer, and even though it’s Alienware, it’s still old and can handle the modern games...for now.
In my honest opinion, console gaming will be dead in 10 years, give or take. Console gaming can only go so far whereas the computer is constantly getting better and has more stable companies. If I was to choose what to buy, an Xbox, ps3, Wii, Gamecube...all the consoles and a top game for each..I would buy a medium-top computer with no game included because frankly even after I stop playing the game I’m still able to mod and tweak the game around. Take for instance Oblivion, it was release for PC and Console. On the console you can’t mod it and your graphics are good but not nearly as good as if you got the PC version. I have the TES construction set where I can tweak characters, make houses, add missions and do everything that is allowed in game. There are even thousands of mods out there in sites that I can download whereas console cannot.
If you bring up the marketplace and store of the consoles, that’s great and all but we have those on PC too. Think Steam.
Another great position PC has over console is the amount of controls you have. You aren’t restricted to what buttons you can press so it makes for an easier get around.
I would like to end by pointing out when you talk about gamers you ought to split them into at least two categories.
1. hardcore gamers
2. casual games
Hardcore gamers, I believe, would much rather take a more high-tech system that provides more outlets than a console which is more for lesiure play. With the PC they have more room to move around and get the best experience possible. For casual gamers it is all about fun and leisure. They normally don’t need that high-tech equipment and don’t play those in-depth FPS games on the computer. To tell the truth you don’t need that good of a computer to play all those games out now-a-days.
When you said companies are coming out with games exclusive to Console, well so are some PC developers. May I point out Crytek? To tell the truth a lot of companies are going towards just doing it for console because of the privacy issue. But lets all be honest, you can still pirate console games!! It goes and and it’s just as easy when pirating a console game. Come on folks, they both have their goods and bads but PC gaming is much better than console gaming. In ten years after you’ve spent hundreds of dollars on games and the console, you’ll hear they dropped console gaming and you’ll have no new games. But PC on the other hand is ultra advanced with new games coming out every week. Even though it takes more money for PC gaming, it has way more advantages than the console.
For the record though I have played all systems and like the PC much better but I have friends who would differ but have not actually played any good PC games, haha.
Yeah my fault, should have mentioned HC and SC players. Alienware, well thats definately cool for playing teh coolest games, atleast that can be said in Mumbai. Although i have never played on a console, I feel more on a PC too. PC games are indeed turning more advanced day by day.
Well I have to say this article is rather inconclusive as to who actually wins the PC/Console war. I think it would do more justice if you named it as something that would help a consumer decide which to buy.
My heard has always been behind PC gaming. These high powered systems called the Xbox 360 and PS3 can be easily matched not by high end gaming PCs out there, especially with the new line up of video cards and processors. Just last month, Asus unveiled a video card that has 1.5 GB of processing power, and CPU chips now clocking in the 3.4 and 3.6 GHz range.
What’s the fun in consoles? You can’t mod the games whatsoever so what am I going to do when I am done beating GTA4, just drive around? no. I would have liked if I could go into the file system, add in my own cars, cheats and whatsoever. It is really limited if you ask me and that’s why I have purchased only 1 console (PS2) and never gotten another. Console Gaming is just a fad and will come to an end in 10 years time.
The third problem is that the war between the two are not measured in all fair sense. They only look at the games that are on both consoles or hot on the consoles. Basically they left out a whole PC market of strategy, RPG and Simulation games that are not ever going to be suitable for a console. Games such as WoW are raking in millions every year for the PC boys.
I personally have played the 360, PS3, Wii and DS but I will always stand by my PC because endless possibilities.
to typos on my part.
1) My heart has always been behind PC gaming.
2) ...and PS3 can be easily matched by high end gaming PCs out there
two typos..wow im tired today
I think you mean ”My Heart”...by I got it anyway....
I see what you mean and I totally agree with you on what you have to say. You are right as to that gaming never stops when you beat the game...at least that is true for the PC.
That new ASUS video card you just mentioned..it processes at 1.5gb...wow that’s amazing.
I heard from a friend about a general downfall in gaming PC’s sales just because they’re way to costly, if you’re talking about liquid cooling systems, more than 4 cores and that too overclocked, its way fast and way costly. I think he mentioned this was a survey in by Gizmodo.com
Inconclusive, well i shall take care next time thats it more upto mark and the headline is more appropriate. Thx for the remark
Well gaming is always going to be higher priced mainly because you can do a lot more with it and you are getting a much better game. If you compare the 360 games and the PC games you are looking at a smoother and faster running game on the PC. That goes without mentioning the graphics will be better and you can mod the game after you win and go back and play your mods.
If you have complaints about the game after you play it, theres almost nothing you can do about it while playing the 360, but when you are playing the PC you can mod/fix/change the game to your liking. You can even publish your mod on the internet for others to try and download it and fix the same things you were worried and annoyed about.
PC games today give more opportunities and better graphics and power than any console will ever hope to achieve. I’m sorry to say but consoles won’t get much farther with the advances we make in PC everyday.
