Doom 3 is really weird game for reviewing. Let me tell you, this game is most likely to invoke only two kinds of emotions from gamers. Either they would fall in love with it or they would despise it 'like hell'. Doom 3 is actually based on the first Doom where a lone marine fights all kinds of adversity in Mars single-handedly where the enemy comes from all sides. However, unlike the original Doom, Doom 3 is a really superb presentation where the pace is set according to the situation where you fight every inch to the end to gain space.

The structure of the game might initially remind you of the classic Half-Life. Set in the futuristic year of 2145, you arrive in the Union Aerospace Corporation facility. While you wander to 'acclimatize' to the surroundings where you can interact with other characters, you can take notes of the huge amount of details in the opening areas.
You can almost feel the air of anxiety, nervousness & mystery that seems to be always with the characters and wonder if there's something wrong here. It will take 27 levels to put all the pieces together to know what is going on. An average gamer would take almost a day to fathom that out.
Now talking about the graphics and the background sound, I must say that that the graphics is absolutely mind-boggling indeed. Every important item, be it the character models or the surroundings are rendered with amazing details. The lighting and shadows are completely synchronized as real. It is real indeed; it is dynamic and changes according to the lighting of the various situations. However, the actions overwhelming take place in the dark where you make use of the flashlights and other fixed artificial lighting. The presentation of the story is praiseworthy beyond words. It is simply top class. The background sound raises goose bumps and it really puts you in the groove. In a few moments you feel as if you are totally soaked in the game and you experience the real emotions of your character.
Conclusion: It is a GREAT game. You just can't afford to miss it. However, a note of disappointment here. It doesn't have replay value once you have completed it.
