The frenzy for Xbox 360 that started with the hype in anticipation of its launch this weekend reached a crescendo when Xbox 360 consoles finally went for sale in CircuitCity.com.
Moments after Xbox 360 went on sale Friday afternoon, the site was flooded with a deluge of traffic. A CircuitCity.com representative said that the company’s site saw a ‘tremendous’ traffic surge when it started taking Internet orders for the eagerly awaited Xbox.
Other retailers had taken preorders for the Xbox, but Circuit City was the only online store selling the consoles Friday.
CircuitCity.com spokeswoman Amanda Tate acknowledged that the Web did slow down due to the huge traffic. However, she declined to disclose the facts and figures on the numbers of Xboxes CicuitCity.com sold.
Microsoft has predicted that it will sell three million Xbox 360 consoles in the first three months.
