Chris Cook in games.net cites five reasons that have the potential to make the Xbox 360 a flop. We had a look in to his article and found them pretty logical and very interesting too.
Let's see what Chris had to say:-
Reason One : Annoying Marketing campaigns by MS. He takes up the issue of MS's cryptic site turning out to be a European-only contest page-weak after much speculation and rumour mongering. He further adds 'To make things even more embarrassing, Microsoft is throwing an 'exclusive' launch party in the middle of the damned desert. Personally, there's not much that's mysterious or "underground" about a console that I can take for a test drive at my local Wal-mart.'

Reason Two : Lack of Popular games. Xbox 360 may have Kameo: Elements of Power and Perfect Dark Zero but Chris rightly says they don't make up a Halo 3!! He says; 'In fact, it just equals two crappy games that aren't going to go far in terms of satisfying hungry console launch enthusiasts. While the launch line-up of third party titles is pretty impressive, just imagine what the launch of the Xbox 360 could have been if Bungie's flagship series had been there, ready for purchase.' Absolutely right mate, we can't agree more with you here. [Also read 'Ten Hot Games that won't Play in the Xbox 360 by Alice Hill]
Reason Three : Sony! He analyses that though MS is aggressively marketing and wrangling for the Xbox 360, it just can't compete with Sony's numbers. He says; 'So instead of the Xbox 360 becoming a contender, it'll just end up fighting it out with Nintendo and their Revolution console for second or third place. Microsoft may have deep pockets, but it's going to take more than money for it to vault the Xbox 360 into the number one spot.'
Reason Four : Backwards Compatibility. MS has made only a limited number of old Xbox games compatible with Xbox 360 and those are only the top selling ones. It has ignored the actual hits like games from the Burnout or Splinter Cell franchises. Chris goes on to say; 'Just think of all the fun you're going to have once you get your Xbox 360, too. What could be more fun than sitting down with your immense collection, popping each game into your console, and then having to download a patch for each one? How about just setting up your old Xbox and playing your catalog of titles the old-fashioned way?' Point well taken pal.

Reason Five : Japanese People. I am really not sure of this, but then when it comes to gaming, the Japanese are as passionate and finicky about games and choosing them like no other. MS in order to woo the Japanese towards migrating to them did preciously little. Only thing that they did so far - as Chris puts it - was to employ a handful of Japanese developers so that they can put out more 'Japanese-friendly' titles. He makes an interesting comparison of the Japanese people to that of the Hot Girl in school, who is finicky but not entirely unavailable. He says; 'Enter Sony, a company founded in Japan with fully-staked interests in the Japanese consumer electronics market, and you're left with a winning combination that consumers can get behind. Sort of like that guy who actually went out with that hot girl back in high school.'
Chris has done a wonderful job, I must admit. Now let's see if MS can take a clue from what the likes of him says. If it is clever enough, it can make things happen in a better way for Xbox 360.
