Microsoft has released an official update to the Xbox 360, patching in improvements to quite a few things in it.

Next time, when you sign into Xbox Live you can expect to see a mandatory update message that requires a brief download time and a system reboot.

Once you start after downloading the patch and rebooting , you’ll find several fixes like:

a) The option to keep your saved games when a profile is deleted,

b) More precision when it comes to recording the ‘last time played’ for players on Xbox Live,

c) More informative messages for unreadable discs or region related errors,

d) Improved network functionality for Xbox Live users in the Netherlands, and

e) Changes to the Xbox Guide.

It seems now MS has brought out the console even before it was fully ready with the bugs still on and not enough quantities produced causing stampedes across America literally.

A thought comes to my mind now; did MS launch the hybrid between the beta and the final version of the 360? They are now relying on customer feedback to check and update the console. I am sure there would be more such updates to follow.

Anyway, how are they going to fix other problems like the overheating of the consoles? They were replacing them the last time I heard anything about it.

Sigh!
