There is a pretty interesting article by Rob Watson in the Philadelphia Inquirer. He writes that in the world of video game consoles, Sony's PlayStation 2 is a runaway winner and has all the belts, throws more punches than Roy Jones Jr. in his prime, and has a crowd of millions behind it.
He also brings out the fact that the advent of the next generation of game machines is upon us. While Sony and Nintendo are busy developing their new consoles for 2006 releases, Microsoft will throw the first blow Tuesday with the Xbox 360, its second effort in the home-gaming arena that's making the hard-core gamers sit on the edges with anticipation.
However, we maintain that it will take some time for MS to beat Sony (if it ever will) because of an array of reasons. Some of them are raised in my previous blog here citing why the Xbox 360 may bomb quoting Chris Cook.
If the rumours prove to be correct that PS3 will be priced around $500 then, Xbox may just get the opening to dent Sony's market. In the world of gaming consoles where gamers look for a cheap quickfix (like circumventing security locks or break open the old consoles to upgrade it so that it functions like the latest one), pegging the consoles at high prices is surely going to prove detrimental to Sony's future prospects.
Anyway, as you are, we too are waiting to watch what transpires in the war between MS and Sony.
