The Xbox 360 is not doing badly. In fact, it is doing very well indeed, maybe perhaps with the exception of Japan. But then, it is not doing that bad there either. People still are doing anything to get the console and it is still sold in the grey market with a price tag that’s quite a few notches higher than the original MRP.

Anyway, we know that PlayStation 3 is going to be released later this year or early next year. However, does PS 3 pose a real threat to Xbox 360? In my opinion it does not. However, many would like to believe that it would. How PS 3 is going to fare is another question altogether. It is not even out and people are talking about the threat it poses to Xbox 360!

I came across an interesting post by Sid Shuman in Games.net where he has his own tips for Microsoft to make sure that the Xbox 360 doesn’t die young.

His 5 mantras are:

1. Redesign the Xbox 360 hardware by early 2007

2. Release the ultimate game–a crown jewel for the Xbox 360

3. Lock down Grand Theft Auto 4 as an Xbox 360 exclusive

4. Turn the Xbox 360 into the MMO console

5. Embrace lower game costs and digital game distribution over Xbox Live

I agree completely that all of them would make the Xbox 360 a super-hit console and will give it a big edge over PS 3 or the coming next-gen consoles by making the Xbox 360 virtually undeniable, irresistible. However, Xbox 360 as of now doesn’t need any of those to ’survive’ as it says.

Read the original article here in Game.net where Sid explains his point very well.
