Wii’s success with WiiMote was a clear indication that sooner or later Nintendo’s contenders will come out with something similar. I thought that maybe next-Gen Sony PS and Xbox will come with similar controller but it seems like Microsoft is in a bit hurry as Wii has become the best selling console of them all. Microsoft has been working on a controlling device similar to WiiMote for long now and we’ll see it by the year end. Reportedly, they’ve been working on it for since summer ’07, but due to some problems they haven’t been able to finish it yet. WiiMote’s Xbox cousin will take it a step further as it will have in-built speaker, microphone, four LED lights, A/B/X/Y buttons, an analoge stick (beat that Nintendo) and an underside trigger. Almighty WiiMote lacks microphone but most importantly it’s got D-Pad, a big let down for people like me.
Company named Rare is working on it and is struggling with giving it a “unified interface and look for the controller.” They say that there is a problem between marketers and designers. Marketers want a real life clone of WiiMote whereas designers want it to take a step further so that game developers will bring Wii games to 360. Designers want it to be known as “Halo, Gears and Forza in waggle form.”
Microsoft too is working on their version of Nintendo Miis to support this accessory that will be included with every game that uses this MiiMote. Lets see if this time Microsoft can stick to their promises and deliver this in time, otherwise there is always a Wii to look at.
