If the rumours, flying thick and fast all over the web are to be believed, Microsoft is all set to cut their gaming console Xbox360 basic version by $75. Come this Easter, gamers will most probably be able to buy their Xbox’s much cheaper than the current prices. After yet another price cut in the series of price cuts the console gaming segment has seen among various players, Microsoft, once again just might spawn off a price war. This expected price cut will place the Xbox360 at $300, bang in the Nintendo Wii territory and almost half as cheap as the base version of the Sony PS3. Analysts believe that this price cut is to take on the Sony PS3 even as Sony has won the Bluray media war against Toshiba’s HD-DVD. Microsoft which had backed the HD-DVD all along and had built the xbox360 compatible with the HD-DVD is desperately in need of a major victory in the console gaming war to survive in the ultra competitive gaming segment. The Xbox360’s premium version also is expected to see a price cut to sell at $480. Now, what this means for the gamers is more choice and proper differentiation of console gaming segments with the Xbox and the Wii fighting it out in the mid segment and the PS3 in the high end segment. Game on.
