Ever since Sony dropped the price of its 60GB PS3, everyone is looking towards Microsoft in anticipation. However, after rampant rumors last month, an officially announcement has come forth from Microsoft confirming a price-drop for each of its three SKUs.
The Core model will see a drop by $20 from $299.99, making it cost $279.99, the Premium by $50 from $399.99 to $349.99, and the Elite by $30 from $479.99 to $449.99. The price-drop will come into effect from tomorrow i.e. August 8th - timed to coincide with August 14th launch of Madden NFL 08, which is one of the greatest titles slated for this holiday season release.
In wake of bringing a couple of price-drops, console manufacturers have kicked off a new race.
Instantaneously after the $100 price-cut announcement, Sony figured out an abrupt notch-up in the PS3 sales - hence, Microsoft would be evidently expecting similar outcome from its latest announcement. Maybe, after playing a big blunder with millions of owners, new formula would cure Xbox360 owners’ festered wounds in order to get Microsoft out of hot water - only time will tell.
Furthermore, the reason behind bringing a sudden price-drop could be perceived as a ruse to outperform Nintendo’s best selling next-gen console Wii or lure PS2 owners as launch date of EA’s multiplatform Madden 08 is nearing, which would attract more gamers owing to its excellent graphics on HD laden Xbox360.
Apart from this, Halo-themed Xbox360s are shipping in September for a suggestive price of $399 and wireless headset for $59.99.
