• BattleForge quite appealing at $29.99

    Gagandeep Sharma | May 6 2009

With a new trailer and a massive price-cut we have suddenly acquired a taste for those loud battle cries. BattleForge at $49.99 didn’t sound a good recommendation, but at $29.99 it is competitive and almost a good deal. To explain the backdrop for this change of heart here is game’s producer Michael Krach:

There has never been a better time to get into the action on BattleForge.

  • Katamari Forever is huge and is on PSN this autumn

    Gagandeep Sharma | Apr 30 2009

For the PS3 fans of Katamari autumn will bode well. That huge ball of crap will start rolling yet again in what’s poised to be the biggest Katamari ever. Katamari Forever has been announced by Namco Bandai and it is slated for a release in autumn ‘09 on European PSN. This issue will bring largest number of stages, game modes and remixed classic Katamari Damacy tunes. Fans will also get a new storyline. The objective will be the same however: Prince’s Katamari is to be rolled into a ball of humongous proportions. The story starts off as the King of Cosmos looses his memory and slips into a coma. The prince is then asked to roll his way to restore planetary bodies and recreate King’s memories. Katamari Forever is in a sense return to the original Katamari Damacy, albeit with great improvements. One of these – availability of different visual filters: wood, comic or pencil shading – sounds just lovely. Rounding off the list of features are local cooperative and competitive multiplayer modes; all in order for everyone to get a little taste of what wackiness the Japanese can create on the gaming scene.

  • PSN plays host to Killzone 2 Steel & Titanium DLC right now

    Gagandeep Sharma | Apr 30 2009

At last it is here. The long wait is over and the expansion of Killzone 2 has hit PSN. The Steel and Titanium map pack for Killzone 2 is alive and kicking on PSN even as you read this. For €5.99/ £4.79 you can access this DLC and enjoy two new new multiplayer maps: Vetka Cruiser and Wasteland Bullet. Described here, these packs have been much looked forward to, al least by gamers in our studio. The DLC also includes as many as 12 new bronze trophies. You’d do well to remember that you must have accumulated at least 2800 points and used those to unlock all classes in the multiplayer mode to enjoy the Steel and Titanium Pack. I can stretch this bit more, but I’d spare you the agony. Get cracking on those download tabs right away.

  • US getting Ace Attorney Investigations this winter

    Gagandeep Sharma | Apr 30 2009

Japanese fans have long pursued the success of Ace Attorney series, both within and outside of the game. Now the series is set for an incarnation on the U.S. shores. Ace Attorney Investigations: Perfect Prosecutor will be making an appearance as Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth in America this winter, Capcom has announced. The tile is being developed by Phoenix Wright, for the Nintendo DS of course, and allows players to reprise the role of Edgeworth. They must then investigate crime scenes with Detective Gumshoe’s able assistance. Gameplay details are still sparse, but this one’s expected to be closer to a point-and-click adventure; translating into more freedom to explore. Courtroom scenes though will be more on the lines of previous episodes, but Wright is touting a new “logic” mode to gather information. More on these as events unfold. Speaking of events, Capcom’s Captivate ’09 has made available an English speaking debut for Edgeworth. Check that out after the break.

  • Reeves’ crystal ball reveals a rosy picture

    Gagandeep Sharma | Apr 30 2009

They say experience is the father of wisdom. Well, if that’s the case then we’d do well to hang onto every word that comes out of David Reeves’ mouth. This outgoing Sony Europe president has gazed into the future and predicted that PS3 could be the market leader, no not today, not even tomorrow, but in three to five years. He has likened the consoles wars to “a tortoise and hare situation” and has sounded “optimistic” for PlayStation’s future in the PAL territories. Reeves is retiring from Sony having served for fifteen years, four of which he was at the top of Sony Europe as its CEO. He’s summed up his time at the helm as:

  • Sled Shred: Get your balancing act right on Wii

    Gagandeep Sharma | Apr 30 2009

This fall Jamaican Bobsled team invades your living room courtesy a funny little title announced by SouthPeak Interactive yesterday. Sled Shred will hit Wii with all the accompanying fun of downhill slides. Players would be racing downhill with and against the Jamaican Bobsled team on a variety of surfaces including tubes, discs, toboggans and bobsleds, all on a quest to enter World Winter Games. Richard Iggo, SouthPEak’s Marketing VP, said:

We are very excited to bring this unique racing experience to Wii with Sled Shred. A sledding game is a natural fit for Wii owners, and we can’t wait to see everyone using their natural body movements to steer their sleds down those slopes!

  • Tekken 6 smacking PSP in 2009

    Gagandeep Sharma | Apr 29 2009

Namco Bandai is delivering a treat for the owners of Sony’s handheld. The publishers have confirmed that Tekken 6 will get a release on PSP. This means that the game is not exclusive to PS3 and Xbox 360 as was believed earlier, instead Namco has confirmed that PSP will get a taste of the fighting title this year itself. Another tasty twist to this news is that rather than being a mellowed down version, Tekken 6 on PSP will actually have additional features. Web is rife with reports of additional stages, items, ad-hoc multiplayer mode over wireless, and ghost data feature (as in fighting against the character data of another player after downloading the same). Still no details of when Tekken 6 PSP takes birth. It is, however expected to be released along with the PS3/360 versions in autumn this year. IGN was the first to break this bit and the handful of screenshots that they have secured promise a good enough port for the PSP.

Keep counting undead limbs as they fly off in Fortune City. Also get a taste of the new and varied weapons that’ll ostensible be at your disposal to hunt down the wretched undead. • The Elder Scrolls lives on…as novels

    Gagandeep Sharma | Apr 28 2009

With Fallout being such hoopla that it is, The Elder Scrolls seems to be a forgotten chapter. Bethesda, it seems, hasn’t given up on its amazingly successful franchise. It has decided to take Elder Scrolls to print, and has entered into an agreement with NYT’s acclaimed author Gregory Keyes – one who worked magic with bestselling Babylon 5 Psi Corps and The Kingdoms of Thorn and Bone – to pen The Elder Scrolls novels. At present two novels have been commissioned, and the first one of these, The Infernal City is set immediately after the events of Oblivion and will come out this fall, courtesy publishers Del Ray. The Infernal City will track the life of two protagonists: a 17-year-old girl named Annaig and the young son of the emperor named Prince Attrebus, both of whom are out to investigate the origins of a flying city that’s wreaking havoc on the landscape of Tamriel. The books would be nothing new for the fans of the franchise. The latest installments of the series had a lot of material to read on the rich heritage of the Elder Scrolls’ universe. And so it seems the saga will continue.
