  • Mark May for Damnation

    Gagandeep Sharma | Apr 14 2009

What does it mean when a game’s pushed into the next year, promising an “early release”? Apparently, it means a push five months into the New Year. But it’s a case of better late than never and we’ll forgive Codemasters if only Damnation comes out as good as its screenshots depict. May 22 is the date when this game takes birth on PC, PS3 and 360, and this has been confirmed by Codemasters. A baby of Blue Omega Entertainment, Damnation is a steampunked sci-fi shooter. To show that this time they mean business, Blue Omega has come out with a video (after jump) in which company’s lead designer Jacob Minkoff explains the designing process of game’s open world. Players are given a free hand in deciding about the best way of traveling through these vast acres of space to tackle the enemy. Minkoff adds:

  • Trailer: Wolverine’s cameos

    Gagandeep Sharma | Apr 14 2009

    MTV Shows

X-Men Origins: Wolverine (as in the movie) is facing a patchy road to its premier (read: it got leaked and several have already seen what the fuss’s all about). Activision is keen to prove that X-Men Origins: Wolverine (as in the videogame) is doing far better. As a testimony, it has released a brand new trailer for the action-adventure game. The newest trailer exhibits several characters in the game, ones that are confined to cameos; so you are in line to see Gambit, Sentinel and Blob. Raven is behind the comic-inspired-film-to-game-port (tongue firmly in cheek). X-Men Origins: Wolverine is supposed to be released alongside the movie, and it will be “uncaged” for PC, PS2, PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, Nintendo DS and PSP on May 1. By the by, graphics are scrumptious and the action serious!

  • Wii tunes up motion in July, Nintendo confirms

    Gagandeep Sharma | Apr 14 2009

We all deal with rumors but occasionally we like to make things concrete. Nintendo recognizes this and has finally given a solid release to its Wii MotionPlus. The device will now hit the US stores on June 8 (European ones on June 12). And as a bonus, the first in-house game that’s supposed to take advantage of this motion control enhancing device, Wii Sports Resort has also been dated. This one’s coming out on July 26 (July 24 in Europe). The Wii MotionPlus will cost $19.99 per piece when it comes out. It acts as an appendage to the WiiMote, and increases the sensitivity of the device to an accuracy of about 1:1. Wii Sports Resort will come bundled with a single MotionPlus and the bundle will cost $49.99. Sports Resort contains a variety of minigames – jet skiing, fencing, and frisbee, to name a few – for the entire family to enjoy. That several third-party games that support MotionPlus have already been announced is a different matter altogether. But hey, this is a moment to rejoice, enhanced interactivity translates into enhanced fun, and it’s just around the corner.

  • More Zombies in summer, Zombie Apocalypse announced

    Gagandeep Sharma | Apr 14 2009

Developers are delivering what we want. And it seems nobody is tired of shooting those wretched undead. As another instance of the operation of the age-old laws of demand & supply, we have a zombie title waiting in the wings. Zombie Apocalypse has been announced by Konami, and the downloadable title is scheduled for release this summer. Zombie Apocalypse will be available to the gamers on Xbox 360 and PS3. The game follows a rather clichéd storyline as players (up to four in a co-op mode, online or locally) are left to fight for survival, in a world rife with the undead. The aim is to save a few living souls from a terrible death that awaits them. Zombie Apocalypse seeks to make difference in the way that players deal with the undead. As many as 11 leathal weapons – including a C4 filled teddy bear – are provided to kill zombies. Also objects from the surroundings can be used to inflict pain on the enemies. Players must stay alive for 55 days in seven different environments, and with an equal number of unlockable game modes this title may turn out to be more entertaining than we may imagine. We’ll know for sure this summer. Mum’s the word on price and date.

  • GameStop off the blocks early, Stardock’s playing digital catch-up

    Gagandeep Sharma | Apr 14 2009

You plan for a game’s release months in advance and along comes an overzealous retailer and ruins all the preparation. This is exactly what has happened with Stardock’s release of Demigod, which was supposed to hits shelves on Tuesday. Instead, GameStop (for some other-worldly reason) decided to start selling copies earlier than was proposed. So now Stardock has had to change its plans considerably. Demigod’s developer Impulse has released the digital version of the game for $39.95 (£26.89) before it officially goes on retail sale. Here’s what Stardock’s CEO Brand Wardell said about the decision:

  • Trailer: Fight Night Round 4 knocks out June 30

    Gagandeep Sharma | Apr 13 2009

For the fans of EA Canada’s Fight Night Round we have some great news. Electronic Arts has confirmed the release date for Fight Night Round 4. The game is now scheduled to hit retailers on June 30. To mark the occasion, EA has come out with a bunch of screenshots and a trailer, which talks up the game’s features while dissing its predecessor Fight Night Round 3. The trailer tries to promote this installment as a “realistic simulation” as opposed to Fight Night Round 3, which has been described as a “repetitive experience.” Brian Hayes, game’s producer explains:

  • Mixed Messages: Time to pass on that DSi

    Gagandeep Sharma | Apr 13 2009

Chinese Whispers was a favorite pastime of ours in school. An exercise in communication it led to may a schoolyard fight, as also some hilarious gaffes. Fast forward to today and we have a pictorial version of the game, Mixed Messages making debut on the newest console of ‘em all: the DSi. Activision is going to release this title on DSiWare. Mixed Messages has been developed by Vicarious Visions and is a party game intended for 2 to 21 players. The game is rather simple. First player writes a sentence on the screen and the next player tries to represent it with a picture. The following player tries to guess the sentence from the picture, jots it down and then passes it on for the exercise to be repeated. This continues till all the players have had a go. Actually the description does not do Mixed Messages the required justice. It promises a lot more fun than that. Imagine the crap people can write, and more importantly, draw to represent that crap. Ah, the possibilities! Mixed Messages comes with complete instructions for those not used to handhelds. It is now on sale for 500 Nintendo Points. A little something to spice up a boring party!

  • Mario and Luigi gone crazy, tee testifies

    Gagandeep Sharma | Apr 13 2009

You won’t dismiss Super Mario Bros. as too violent a game. But then you haven’t stretched your imagination. One look at these t-shirts on sale and I promise Mario and Luigi will haunt you (in every unpleasant sense of the word) for ever. This is what happens when you take a cartoon and amp it up to represent reality. Warrior Plumbers T-shirt shows several characters from the game: plumbers gone bonkers, Koopa (tortoise) flying everywhere, Yoshi as a scary dinosaur, mushrooms with boots! This is Mario at its worst, de-cartooned form. Available for men (in Carolina Blue) and ladies (in Ocean Blue), Warrior Plumbers T-shirt has got the image (12”X15”) printed on the front. Crazy and disturbing, this is a depiction of Mario Bros. in an alternate universe. Buy these for $19.75 +Shipping on topatoco. Buy it and end your odd love-affair now. And hey, if those lovable characters turned into these, what’s up with Bowser? Jump for a full description.

The mushroom with shoes and a sentient mind looked on in horror as two rough mustachioed men emerged from the large pipe ahead of him. The fatter one locked eyes with the mushroom and whispered menacingly, “It’s a me.”

  • GreenWorld mod greens up Fallout 3’s backdrop

    Gagandeep Sharma | Apr 13 2009

Blame Fallout 3 with all kind of stuff but there’s one thing you can’t accuse it of: bothering with real world greenery. If pools of radioactive junk ain’t your cup of tea then you would like to put in a good word for one Mr. Khyrin. He’s created a wonderful mod that spices up Fallout 3’s environment and endows it with green shrubbery. GreenWorld mod transforms the harsh climate into something that’s a bit more pleasing and hospitable. Here’s a link to this positively reviewed file. Try it out. Since spring is in the air, it won’t do too much harm on your gaming machine either. Actually this will work only on a PC so the option is restricted. Post-apocalyptic survival in a verdant world. Now that I can handle!
