Last time we saw Daniel Graner, he was battling some devil’s henchmen in Painkiller. That was way back in April of 2004. Now the long dead game is being resurrected with an apt tile of Painkiller: Resurrection. The title will hit PC in quarter four this year. There are also some rumors of a port following on Xbox 360. The original Painkiller was a successful FPS that kept things rather old-school. Its setting and gameplay were reminiscent of trailblazing PC shooters like Doom and Quake. Announced by JoWood Productions and developer Homegrown Games, Painkiller: Resurrection is a sequel to the original, and although original developer People Can Fly ain’t onboard, I trust this one will stay true to the style. Players don the shoes of CIA assassin Wild Bill Sherman this time around. An explosion combined with occupational hazards lands him in Purgatory. Now he battles monsters in trying to prevent a war between Heaven and Hell. The single player mode is reinforced with a co-op mode and some competitive multiplayer gameplay as well. IGN is the source for much of web’s info about Painkiller: Resurrection so head there and find out more about this lip-smacking title.
The beauty of gaming lies in getting away…with anything. You rough people up, crash cars, even slide cheats in to hit balls long, and there’s nothing anybody can really do. Detractors would have us believe that this leads to anarchy and fearlessness even in real life. It is therefore a no-brainer to guess the plot of a game that’s supposedly being made by a judge, well, a TV judge at any rate.

You gotta do what you can to get by in the world of gaming. So if your favorite hour of the day (aka gaming session) calls for a bit of innovation and hacking then so be it. I mean it is an accepted fact (much like gravity) that fighting titles best go with an arcade joystick; the more wireless the better. And hence when a gamer was stuck with a coffee table and a 360 controller, he didn’t sit around waiting for miracles to happen. As the appended video would attest, he got off his butt and modded himself a neat coffee table wireless arcade joystick; one that does not ruin the décor either. That he had Street Fighter running, and egging him on, is proved by the fact that he used game’s theme as a background to his DIY video. Check it out after jump. Hats off to whosoever did this!

Here’s some breaking news for you; breaking as in stale, but we still love it and would like to hear about it. Braid has received positive reviews from most quarters. Now PC owners can finally see what the fuss is all about. Number None’s critically acclaimed title has made the switch of platforms (from exclusive XBLA) and has brought out a demo too, just in case you are not ready to shell out without testing. The time-twisting platform adventure, starring the inimitable Tim, is now available for download on a host of services including: Gamersgate, Impulse, Greenhouse, and Steam. The Indie title was a major hit last year and is available for a paltry sum of $14.95. As promised, you may try it out first. Just download the demo file from Big Download or File Shack. Players seeking more than simple jumps in 2D environ must get this one; Braid is all about puzzles and logic.

Patents are insight into the mission of a company, what it wants to do in the long run. I’m kidding; a patent is an instrument wherein a company lets fly its imagination, coming up with stuff of dreams. That’s precisely the thought that’s gone into a patent filed by SCEE, envisaging a PSP-controlled car (no less). The last time you may have seen this stunt pulled off would be Bond’s Tomorrow Never Dies. So as clichéd as it may be, a PSP-controlled car wouldn’t be too bad (I so want it). Sony plans to do this on a lesser stage: as in a toy car – replete with a mic and realistic car noise – controlled by a PSP. It plans to mount a camera on a car, which is controlled using wireless capability of a PSP. This camera provides video feed, which is then used to maneuver the car. This is done so that the users can, for one, “spy on their friends.” Also the patent says something about an “augmented reality” racing game. In other words, constructing a racing track within your home with everyday objects acting as obstacles. The only question that remains is whether Sony has the potential to make this thing work. I’m praying, feel free to join in!

Joystiq ran a story a couple of days back. It highlighted the success of Killzone 2, which has sold over 500,000 units in its first month on shelves. This makes Killzone 2 the highest-selling SCEA PS3 title in its opening 30 days. That as it may be, we are sure to receive more overwhelming numbers soon enough. And the reason behind that may be the DLC that’s set to be provided by Guerilla Games before April ends. Herman Hulst, Managing Director at Killzone 2’s developers revealed this in an interview on Gametrailers TV. He said the pack that’s supposed to go live this month will deliver two new multiplayer maps. Christened “Steel & Titanium”, this pack will comprise of two multiplayer maps: Vektra Cruiser and Wasteland Bullet. Former is a vertically-oriented arena set in an ISA tech cruiser: “New Sun”, while the latter consists of two freight trains with players allowed hopping to and fro. Hulst went on to claim that another map pack bearing the tag of “retro” is in the making. Are they bringing back some original Killzone stuff? Who knows? This just keeps getting better. Pricing and other details will be updated here when they come out.

With one track already aboard (on Rock Band 2 disc), it was a matter of time that Chinese Democracy went all out on Rock Band. This is precisely what will happen next week when Guns N Roses DLC becomes available. Harmonix has announced that 13 tracks from the album (the aforementioned “Shackler’s Revenge” being excepted) will be available next week. Chinese Democracy was Guns N’ Roses first official music release in fifteen years and went platinum in February 2009; it was released in November 2008. As DLC, Chinese Democracy will be available as a full album – for 360 and PS3 – or individual tracks – for 360, PS3, and Wii. The pack is available for download starting April 14, 2009 for Xbox 360 and Wii. On April 16 it becomes available for PS3. Full track list follows:
Inexorable Tales’ saga moves on. This time the latest takes shape of official website launch for all of the three JRPGs that are soon to take birth on diverse platforms, courtesy Namco Bandai. And while we are on the subject, Sega hasn’t left behind its child with Tri Ace either. End of Eternity, too has got its very own webpage. We are more interested in Tales of Vesperia though. That’s because as promised we have a trailer running; this will also hit PlayStation Store (in HD probably) later this month. Patty Fleur makes an anticipated appearance. Also look out for two new bosses, a dungeon and other attractions to keep you on the edge. And I did say that the page is in Japanese. Of course! Anyway, Tales of VS also gets a trailer thrown in. The PSP headed gaming title takes 35 characters from across the Tales series and pits them in fisticuffs. Jump for the URLs.
So you thought you know everything there is to know about Guitar Hero Greatest, oops Smash Hits? You better think again. A trailer has emerged that conceals the very thing it purports to deliver till the very last moment: release date. Yup, Guitar Hero Smash Hits has been officially dated. It will now go live on PS2, PS3, 360 and Wii on June 16, 2009. There you have it, a little note to add on top the list of 48 “greatest” Guitar Hero tunes that the game is supposed to bring, and that you have so meticulously prepared. Anyway, the trailer features a bunch of songs that you’ll be playing on the game. It also shows that this time around the only-guitar songs will be played with the backing of a full band. Activision has done a really nice job of mashing together elements of gameplay, as well as content, from all the Guitar Heroes till date. The trailer points out this, as also the fact that Guitar Hero Smash Hits will include the Music Studio song-creation and sharing mode, besides offline and online play modes for single and multiplayer modes. Ah, “I love Rock N’ Roll”!

Put on your fisting gloves! 1up has got exclusive look at Tekken 6: Bloodline Rebellion, and this means a host of screenshots, 45 to be exact (well, only few of those are new). Namco Bandai’s fighting title is slated to take the franchise ahead with a Q4 release planned on PS3 and Xbox 360. The latest bundle of screens exhibits several characters engaging in some one-on-one action. Armor King, Roger, Jack, Nina, are all letting some sparks fly. Of course, we’ve already been given a description of several of these characters in March, along with the details of what they have been doing since the last King of Iron Fist Tournament. On another level, we have Katsuhiro Harada giving interview on gamepro describing several of Tekken 6’s upgrades. Our gallery has some of the latest screens from Tekken 6: Bloodline Rebellion.
