With hundreds of MMOs sprawled all across the web, The Matrix Online never ever got to the forefront. So after four years – a time where none logged in except the very dedicated – Sony Online has had enough. The company has decided that it must plug out of The Matrix Online. On July 31st this massively multiplayer game will be gone for good. MxO was officially released on April 15, 2005, and has since many an Agent has fallen to the cause of human resistance. Game producer Daniel “Walrus” Myers posted on MxO’s official forums:
It has been a good run. Where many games have fizzled out before or shortly after launch, by August we will have lived on in our home at SOE for more than 4 years. To this day, I have never worked with a community as dedicated as The Matrix Online community.
And it is for this community that The Matrix Online Team is bringing an “end-of-the-world event”; though what that entails we have no idea. Myers, by the way is moving on to The Agency, and so I hope the Agents will too. Or maybe they care for a sequel! Or maybe not!
